What Is Estate Planning?
No one likes to think about estate planning, but it is a necessary evil to avoid hardships for your family in the future. At the very least, one should have a Will that disposes of all personal and real property.
A financial power of attorney allows you to choose who will handle your financial affairs if you are unable to communicate or make decisions due to illness or incapacity.
A living will can be put in place to express your healthcare wishes while you are still alive. With a living will you are able to designate treatments you could receive if you were unable to communicate due to illness or incapacity. You might also consider a healthcare power of attorney which would allow you to assign an individual to make these medical or end-of-life decisions for you.
